And today, we couldn't be prouder to announce that the Florida Gators' No. 1 is officially the newest member of Phenom U — our roster of college athletes who embody everything Phenom Elite stands for: speed, work ethic, and the refusal to be outworked by anyone.
A Legacy Written in Orange and Blue
Brown III isn't just a Gator — he's a third-generation Gator. His grandfather, Vernell Brown Sr., played defensive back in Gainesville in the early '80s. His father, Vernell Brown Jr., suited up for Florida from 2001–05 and was once called the face of Florida football. VB3 grew up wearing the jersey. Then he went out and earned his own.
The Freshman Season That Rewrote the Record Book
As a true freshman in 2025, Brown III became the first true freshman in Florida program history to lead the team in both catches and receiving yards — hauling in 40 receptions for 512 yards while doubling as the Gators' kick and punt returner. He earned Freshman All-SEC honors at wide receiver, all-purpose, and return specialist, becoming the first Gator ever to sweep all three. Oh, and that one-handed grab against LIU? No. 1 on SportsCenter's Top 10. If you saw it, you haven't forgotten it.
Now entering his sophomore season wearing No. 1, Brown III represented Florida at SEC Media Days and has built a reputation as one of the hardest workers in the building — the kind of competitor who told reporters he didn't lose a single player-versus-player matchup all offseason. That mentality is exactly why he belongs here.
