A: Any time. High school prospective student-athletes can call or email college coaches at any time at their own expense. The rules only apply to when coaches are able to contact prospective student-athletes or their families. You can reach out to them at any time!
Realistically, if you don’t have any offers, it’s best to wait until your junior season. Coaches want to see recent, varsity film. If they like your film, they will likely request entire games or halves so they can evaluate you more in depth and possibly reach out to your coaches or their sources in the area. Be sure to include your Student-Athlete Resume.
Yes, coaches are putting together lists of top freshmen and sophomores, but it’s more important to focus on your academics, position skills and physical growth as an underclassmen. Focus on becoming the best player that you can be so you can go into your junior and senior years with great fundamentals and physical measureables. Your time is better invested in your development as an underclassman!
Don’t rush the process, you’ll have plenty of time for recruiting as an upperclassman.
